Modern Technologies in Greenhouse Cultivation
Technologies applied in greenhouse production increase yield and quality through the precise management of environmental conditions and optimization of resource use. The main technological approaches are as follows:
- Climate management: Greenhouse temperature, humidity, light, and CO2 levels are continuously monitored and automatically regulated by sensors and control units. This maintains the ideal growth range of plants, reduces stress-related yield losses, and minimizes the risk of disease.
- Automatic irrigation and drainage systems: Thanks to soil moisture sensors, timers, and drip/aspersion systems, the water needs of plants are met at the right time and in the right amount. Water is saved, water stress is prevented, and labor costs are reduced.
- Feeding (fertilization) automation: With intelligent dosing devices and fertigation systems, plants are given nutrient solutions according to their needs. With the right timing and quantity, yields increase, fertilizer use becomes more efficient, and the environmental burden is reduced.
- Disease and pest monitoring: Disease or pest symptoms are detected early using imaging systems, multispectral cameras, and AI-powered analysis. Early intervention reduces crop loss and allows for targeted chemical interventions.
- Smart monitoring and management platforms: Sensor data is centrally controlled through management software integrated with climate control, irrigation, and fertilization systems. Remote monitoring and data analytics optimize production decisions.
- Soilless farming (hydroponics/aeroponics): Plants are grown with nutrient solutions without being tied to the soil. Water and nutrient efficiency is high, growth rate is generally higher, and the risk of soil-borne diseases is eliminated; it offers a sustainable alternative in greenhouse production.
When these technologies are used together, higher yields, stable quality, and efficiency in resource use are achieved in production.
